I had the opportunity to interview Cara Lynn Shultz the other day, and I had to work REALLY hard not to go all “Fan-girl” on her. Luckily, for my fan-girlness, the interview was over email so I was able to keep myself in check to some extent. This summer has been a great few months of reading for me, and Shultz’s Spellbound was one of the reasons for that. I absolutely loved this book! After reading the book, and reviewing it here, I knew that I HAD to interview this debut novelist. Of …

For me, there are some books that transcend the expected and change you to some degree. Steve Brezenoff’s Brooklyn, Burning is one of those books. Once I was finished, I had to sit and marinate in all that I had read, all that I had acquired while reading, and needed to think about. And, there was a lot I needed to think about.
The main character, Kid, has had a rough two summers. What we know about Kid is there was love, there was loss, there was fire, and there was …

Cinder and Ella by Melissa Lemon is a conundrum to me if I am completely honest with you. As I began the novel, there were several times that I became confused as to what exactly was happening within the story line. The basic storyline is that both Cinder and Ella end up at the kingdom castle, which turns out to be dangerous for them both, due to an evil prince. They go through trials and tribulation, fall in love, and good wins out over evil.
While the idea behind the story …

I went into reading Delirium by Lauren Oliver quite by accident. I was walking through the library one day when I spotted it on an end cap. Knowing that it had come out this year, and having heard all of the reviews for Oliver’s Before I Fall, I decided it would be the perfect addition to my ever-growing stack of books in my arms. I quickly snatched it up, added it to the top of my teetering pile, and wobbled over to the checkout area. While I had a stack …

It is a rare thing when I finish a book and immediately want to read it again. There is only a short list of these books from my entire lifetime so far. The list includes Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables, George Orwell’s 1984, Christopher Paul Curtis’s The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963, Lois Lowry’s Gathering Blue, Laurie Halse Anderson’s Fever 1793, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series, a few others, and, now, Myra McEntire’s Hourglass.
I finished Hourglass a couple of days ago, and I have been wondering how to put …

Hourglass is not just a pretty cover… The story is refreshing and beautiful as well. I fell in love with the main characters, Emerson and Michael, from the beginning of the story. Em’s quirkiness and sarcastic nature, and Michael’s hero complex and mysterious life kept me reading at a furiously fast pace. I had to stop myself from reading the entire book in one sitting, because I wanted it to last. To be honest, the last time I took the time to slow myself down while reading was when I …
