Blog Tour/Review: Silent Orchids by Morgan Wylie

I’m am so excited to be a part of the blog tour for Silent Orchids, and I am going to work my review in somewhere!  Today, Morgan Wylie has brought us a fun glimpse of her writing community…
Hello and thank you for having me here today to talk about the importance of community in writing.
I wouldn’t be where I am without community. Writing is a very introverted process and can get lonely especially if there aren’t people around you that understand the journey you are on. Let’s face it, not …

It was a great relief to finally get my hands on The Eternity Cure, by Julie Kagawa. Kagawa definitely knows how to leave the reader hanging, and after reading The Immortal Rules I was itching to find out where Allie would end up. The second novel in The Blood of Eden Series didn’t have as much world building to hash through, and got down to business immediately.  This grabbed me from the first page, and I was hooked all the way to the “end”.
Allie’s story takes a turn in the …

Blog Tour/Review: VAIN by Fisher Amelie

REVIEW:
Vain, by Fisher Amelie, was a refreshing read for me! Not only was I completely unaware of where the story would lead the main character, but it was also a great change for me in the New Adult genre.  (Side Note: New Adult should NOT translate to smut.) Vain offered a story that was insightful and encouraged self-reflection, but it remained entertaining.
Sophie is annoying for the first few chapters, and I think it helped me appreciate the journey she goes on as well as the changes she makes in her life.  Make …

Review of Beautiful Disaster/Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Beautiful Disaster, by Jamie McGuire, was released in August of 2012, and Walking Disaster was just released this month.  The former is the story from Abby Abernathy’s POV, and she pushes past being the whiny bad girl, but still has a slew of issues to work through.  The latter is Travis Maddox’s POV, and he has spent his life avoiding the emotions by focusing on the physical.
I’ll start out by saying that this novel came highly recommended by a girlfriend of mine, and I usually like 80% of the novels …

ID: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Let me preface this review with a warning… I am a blubbering idiot about this series ending!  If you haven’t watched the video below, then you’ve been spared the embarrassment of my brain going into meltdown mode.  Of course, I thought it would be clever to record my thoughts immediately finishing Clockwork Princess, needless to say that I won’t be doing that again.
Now that I have taken three days to compose myself, in addition to being unable to pick up another book because my head and heart are healing from …

Nobody by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Nobody, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, started out as a promising mix of YA paranormal and sic-fi. Claire could be depressing and whiny, but despite no one paying any attention to her for her entire life she sucks it up and works on her tan.  Then there is an attempt on her life.  Claire is unaware that she has a rare ability, but when she sees the guy that wants to kill her it starts a string of events that bring the two to work together.
I really liked the character Claire, …

A Shimmer of Angels by Lisa M. Basso

A Shimmer of Angels, by Lisa M. Basso, is a refreshing new young adult novel all about a girl named Ray and her ability to see angels in her everyday life.  One reason I love this new paranormal is that Basso doesn’t romanticize Rayna’s life, and her ability to see angels.  Rayna can see both the good and the bad, the black and the white wings… The acting angels and the fallen.
Rayna knows she’s not crazy, but her family can’t help but worry about her and the things that haunt her. When …

The Ultra Violets by Sophie Bell

The Ultra Violets, by Sophie Bell, is an ultra-awesome Middle Grade novel, that is going to take your kids on an adventure to Sync City with a purple-haired pre-teen, Iris, and the rest of her friends!  I have to admit that while I am an avid reader, my own daughter takes some encouraging in the subject.  When The Ultra Violets arrived in the mailbox, I had to convince my daughter to let me read the brilliant, purple-covered book first. While the cover is extremely inviting, you’ll be pleased to know that the …

Shrapnel by Stephanie Lawton

Shrapnel is a fun, YA paranormal that is filled with ghosts, history, and snarky teens! I really enjoyed Stephanie Lawton’s characters and the pace of the story, and I think you will too!  If you like Maureen Johnson’s The Name of the Star, you’ll love Shrapnel.  I’ve given the novel four books on the bookshelf!
