It was a great relief to finally get my hands on The Eternity Cure, by Julie Kagawa. Kagawa definitely knows how to leave the reader hanging, and after reading The Immortal Rules I was itching to find out where Allie would end up. The second novel in The Blood of Eden Series didn’t have as much world building to hash through, and got down to business immediately.  This grabbed me from the first page, and I was hooked all the way to the “end”.
Allie’s story takes a turn in the …

Shadows by Ilsa J. Bick

Shadows is the second novel in the Ashes Trilogy, by Ilsa J. Bick. This apocalyptic zombie thriller picks up right where the cliffhanger in Ashes leaves off!  If you can believe it, I thought the second installment was even better than the first.  The story built in complexity and intensity, while the characters fought zombies and, in some cases, senior citizens.
Eyeball eating was bad enough, but in Shadows we get better view of the ‘life’ these zombies lead.  Alex, Tom, and Ellie have all been forced by circumstances to separate, …

Once by Anna Carey

Once, by Anna Carey, is the second novel in The Eve Trilogy.  The story picks up a few months after the heart wrenching ending of Eve.  I never reviewed Eve, because I read it before I started writing reviews.  The beginning of this dystopian series left me slightly disturbed and moderately intrigued. Easily a ’3′ books on the bookshelf book!

Once is a novel filled with even more suspenseful detail about a futuristic Las Vegas, and the distorted workings of the acting government.  Eve has found herself more aware of, and …

UtopYA Con 2012

This weekend is the first evah UtopYA Con, a weekend celebrating YA Paranormal authors, novels, and fans!  Kelly and I were honored to participate as panelists and get to know some new authors and fellow fans.  We also had to opportunity to catch up with some authors we already adore!  The weekend started off with a beautiful, and encouraging opening from Myra McEntire, author of Hourglass and Timepiece.  She wanted everyone to know, “You can do it!” The best part is that she enlisted the help of some other well …

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent, by Veronica Roth, is the second novel in a trilogy that had me rebelling from my traditional reading routine.  I felt inspired by Tris to go with my instincts and took my time to soak up this story.  Divergent, the first book in the series, is a fast paced, peculiar adventure that follows a sixteen year old girl that is warring with her past, present, and future.  Throughout Divergent I felt a constant tug that there was more going on with some of the minor characters, and we get …

The Selection by Kiera Cass

The Selection, by Kiera Cass, is a ‘dear’ dystopian novel that has had quite a bit of buzz recently!  It will be released in a few weeks, on April 24, 2012.  The novel had me mesmerized within the first few pages, and I could not put it down.  America Singer, the main character, is a musician that struggles with her mother’s bossiness, her boyfriend’s pride, and the fact that she has to move to the royal palace to compete for the prince’s affection.
Where there have been some comparisons to other …
