Blog Tour: Fated by Alyson Noel

Fated is the first novel in the The Soul Seekers Series by Alyson Noel. The story begins with Daire, a teenage girl traveling the world with her Hollywood make-up artist mother. As far-fetched as that may sound, add in the fact that Daire is seeing bloody heads on stakes and swarms of ravens, and it’s a doozy of a paranormal YA novel to follow.
As Daire goes mental the only alternative to being admitted into a mental institution is to move in with a long-lost grandmother… in the desert. This is when Daire goes into rebellious teen mode, runs away, gets hit by a car, becomes aware of her mystical Native American mojo, and has smexy dreams about a mysterious boy! (If you’re missing midday soaps, this is the novel for you!)
Alyson Noel has done a great job of creating eccentric characters and an arcane world that keeps you reading. It was difficult to follow Fated, and the only aspect of the novel that kept me reading during the first half was Daire and the mystery surrounding her.
I give Fated 3 books on the bookshelf, but have to admit that the first half of the book was a struggle, and if the story had not gotten better I would have given it 2 books on the bookshelf. If you like Native American folklore and mysterious boys you’ll like this story. While Fated was difficult to get into, I do foresee its potential as a good series and look forward to reading future books!
