Review of The Survivors by Amanda Havard

30 November 2011 No Comment

Sooooo, I have decided to post my review for The Survivors by Amanda Havard on the last day of it’s reign as our Book of the Month for November!  Better late than never, right?  I read the book 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it.  I had a hard time posting the review then, because I felt like I needed to process everything I was thinking about the novel.  The plot is intriguing, the characters are endearing, and that left me enthralled!  I am hooked, and really look forward to the series as a whole.

Now, you know me, I’m honest.  There were a few things about the novel that did hinder me from making it a ’5-book’ book on the bookshelf, and I’m going to tell it like it is.  First, the cover was not something that drew me to the book, or even made a lasting impression.  There is an element of mystery to the picture, but when I first saw it and tied the title and the image together I thought ‘hiking accident’ or ‘Diary of  Jeff Probst’!  There are so many settings in this story and I think there could have been something a little more eye catching used for the cover.  Second, I had a hard time connecting with all of the characters.  Don’t get me wrong, I really love ALL of the characters, but their relationships with each other and the main character’s struggle to find out who she is made it hard to sync with their decisions throughout the story.  I’m guessing this will work itself out through the series, so it’s more that I’m frustrated that I don’t know what will happen in future novels!

If you love Twilight, Daughter of Smoke and Bones, or After Obsession you’ll love this novel!  There is a lot to look forward to as well!  If you want to know more about the books, characters, or author check out Amanda Havard’s website, HERE!
