City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

23 May 2012 No Comment

City of Lost Souls is the most riveting novel Cassandra Clare has written, EVAH, and that’s saying a lot!  I enjoyed the first three books in Clare’s The Mortal Instruments Series, and I will even admit that I thought City of Fallen Angels was really good.  But, my oh, my!  These characters lives, that Clare has so intricately woven together, have become so action packed it’s engrossing. I also adore the first two books in Clare’s The Infernal Devices Trilogy, and truly believed she could not write characters I would love more than Tessa, Will, and Jem.  I was WRONG!

City of Lost Souls picks up with Jace missing, Clary frantic, Simon at Clary’s side, and the rest of the gang following the Shadowhunter’s laws.  Sounds pretty typical, right?  Well, the best part of this story is when everyone starts following their gut, and leaving the Institute!  (Sleepover at Magnus’, anyone?)  I love where Cassandra is taking these characters, especially SIMON… He is my new favorite-CassieClare-character!  There is brilliance and frustration in the narrative storytelling that bounces from scene to scene.  I could not put the book down!

I am not all about spoilers, but I will say that if you love the paranormal and/or fantasy genre(s), you will like/love this series. (The reason I worded it ‘like/love’ is because it just keeps getting better!)  I give City of Lost Souls 5 books on the bookshelf!

Book Synopsis:

The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon. Can the lost be reclaimed? What price is too high to pay for love? Who can be trusted when sin and salvation collide? Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.
