The Girl in the Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross

8 May 2012 No Comment

Kady Cross’s second book in The Steampunk Chronicles is The Girl in the Clockwork Collar.  Finley Jayne and the gang are off to save Jasper in New York City.  I was so excited to get more story from Finely, Griffin, and Emily, and was surprised to love Jasper’s backstory!  Action, adventure, super-pow-wahs, angsty-love, cravats, and corsets… I mean collars!  Who could ask for more?  Right?

If it’s possible Kady Cross has written an even better novel than her first (The Girl in the Steel Corset)!  There is more action, more adventure, more super-pow-ahs, more… You get the picture.  One way I knew Clockwork Collar was going to be good was because I couldn’t decide if I loved or hated the villain.  Dalton, the head of a New York gang and Jasper’s arch nemesis, is hot and an evil genius!  We also meet come of Jasper’s past lady-friends… Mei and Cat.  While the story revolves around Jasper’s troubles, Finley and Griffin are still in the spotlight as the main characters.  Finley works to figure out her dark side, and what role it will play in her future.  Griffin is working out his feeling for Finley and how to safely lead the gang.

You definitely need to grab The Girl in the Steel Corset, if you haven’t already… Then you need to get The Girl in the Clockwork Collar!  Barnes & Nobles says it will be available May 22, 2012.  Steampunk makes me happy, and if you love action, sic-fi, romance, and historical you will love The Steampunk Chronicles by Kady Cross!

The Girl in the Clockwork Collar gets 4.5 books on the bookshelf!

Book Description:

In New York City, 1897, life has never been more thrilling-or dangerous

Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her “straynge band of mysfits” have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade-the dangerous device Jasper stole from him…for the life of the girl Jasper loves.

One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei’s neck tightens. And tightens.

From the rough streets of lower Manhattan to elegant Fifth Avenue, the motley crew of teens with supernatural abilities is on Jasper’s elusive trail. And they’re about to discover how far they’ll go for friendship.

More than ever, Finley Jayne will rely on powerful English duke Griffin King to balance her dark magic with her good side. Yet Griffin is at war with himself over his secret attraction to Finley…and will risk his life and reputation to save her. Sam, more machine than man, finds his moody heart tested by Irish lass Emily-whose own special abilities are no match for the darkness she discovers on the streets.

Now, to help those she’s come to care for so deeply, Finley Jayne must infiltrate a criminal gang. Only problem is, she might like the dark side a little too much….
